Read MoreThanks for all the comments on yesterdays photo!! This is The Boy Scout Tree - Technically not Oregon, but we crossed the border down into CA for a day to go scope out the infamous redwoods. I had never been there before and was completely blown away by these legendary, ancient trees. I have never in my life been so impressed by nature. I never thought a tree would put me in my place, but I felt very tiny, and insignificant walking through this forest. It was a very humbling experience, and I wish I could have stayed there for much longer than just an afternoon.
This tree was called the Boy Scout tree - named for the boy scout troop that built the 3 mile trail back to it. It is the 3rd largest tree in all of redwood natl' forest. This photo doesn't come close to showing you how big this tree actually was.

on August 23, 2011Nice shot, and I can completely relate to your caption. I wasn't prepared for the size of these guys when I saw them at Mariposa Grove in Yosemite a few years ago. The largest living things ever apparently?
