Michael Lohr > Spring time in Colorado
Michael Lohr > Maybe it's just because it's spring and all the birds are out, but today's photo is yet ANOTHER colorado bird that gave me the perfect photo opportunity. This is a Western Meadowlark - Their song is synonymous with spring time in this area, and after the last 3 days of snow, this one landed but 4 feet away from me and stood there and posed for at least 5 minutes. What a perfect day. I love spring time :)
Michael Lohr > I have been fortunate enough to find and see a ton of rare birds lately. I am not even a bird watcher, I just recently have happened to stumble upon Great Horned Owl, Wild Turkey, Domestic Turkey, and now Pheasants!! My buddy and I were driving down the road in a truck (he was driving) when suddenly the truck spooked up a pheasant that flew beside us for a good 300ft. This bird flies incredibly fast. We were doing about 40 while he was cruising along side of us, which turned out to be the perfect chance to shoot a photo of this wonderful critter in flight.
Michael Lohr > Storm season is on it's way!
Michael Lohr > Digging though my stash of filters I came across my all but forgotten Red 29 filter! This filter creates the most amazing contrasts for black and white photos.

The images before the black and white conversion looks near apocalyptic, while the black and white is a nicely contrasted black and white! I put both versions of the shot side by side so you can see the before and after.
Michael Lohr > It's been a bird kind of week. After seeing wild turkey, I was sent to a property for work that has a few domestic turkey running around! This guy was a handful and wanted a piece of me just as much as I wanted a photo of him. Kept having to snap a shot and run!
Michael Lohr > Today's photo is another wild bird of the area - With spring in the air, the birds are strutting their stuff all over the place. This is a wild Turkey from one of the County's open space properties. We spent a few hours today listening for gobbles and wandering the woods to track this guy down.
Michael Lohr > It's a Gremlin!!!!!

(just kidding - It's only a baby Great Horned Owl)
Michael Lohr > This is from a few months ago - but somehow I overlooked it because I totally forgot all about this photo and it has sat on my hard drive just waiting to be re-discovered!
Michael Lohr > The building in the lower right is my office. Such a great place to work :)
Michael Lohr > Another day playing with a UV filter and vaseline - I call this shot "Flying People"
Michael Lohr > The good ol' vaseline on a UV filter trick
Michael Lohr > One of my very first attempts at food photography for my friend in culinary school!
Michael Lohr > I was told this cat bites... so I only took pictures of him.
Michael Lohr > I love Colorado!! One of the only places probably on earth that would have a town like Nederland, CO. This event is called the "Coffin Race" and is part of a weekend long celebration called Frozen Dead Guy Days. This event all started a year after a guy living in Nederland decided to "cryogenically" freeze his recently passed grandfather in a Tuff Shed filled with dry ice. Word got out that this guy had his dead grandfather frozen in a shed in his backyard, and before you knew it - the town decided to hold a yearly party for this strange guy and his frozen grandpa.
