Michael Lohr > The girl was better positioned in the original pictures, but when I stitched the photos together for a pano the crop came dangerously close to cutting her out of the frame! Thankfully she is still there, but I kind of wish there was more around her.
Michael Lohr > Todays posting is a Two-fer. I got out of work early and decided to visit Boulder Falls, just a few miles west of Boulder, CO. Ended up spending all afternoon here waiting for the light to be just right on that peak in the background. I haven't had much practice with shooting falls, and my Infrared falls shot from the other day sparked my interest to go find a bigger waterfall. This pano shot I feel doesn't do this waterfall justice however when it comes to the size of the feature itself, which is why I've loaded 2 pics for the day! A young girl was posing for her friends who were also taking photos right next to the falls and I thought it was a perfect shot to show some scale of the falls.
Michael Lohr > Just some cool plants I saw growing out of a stone wall at work. This is an Infrared turned Sepia.

Think I need to start using larger F-stops for more clarity. I had this one at 4.5 but I bet an f-stop of 11-15 would make a huge difference in the clarity of the image.
Michael Lohr > Inside the Wall street Gold Mine - This is one of our historic buildings at my work that we take care of. My photo from 4 days ago, the image looking up and out of a silo is the same structure. The round wall on the right hand side of this photograph is actually the outside wall of that silo, and I am in a tunnel that wraps around the entire outside of the silo. It's a very interesting building, and makes for some very interesting photos!

Another cool thing about this shot that I noticed, is you get no sense of scale. This tunnel was no more than 4ft tall and only 3ft wide. I was pretty cramped when I shot this.
Michael Lohr > I wanted to get the flowing effect on the water, but it wasn't near dark enough to have a slow shutter speed that would allow such a shot. I decided it was a good time to break out the infrared filter again! This is the shot I got. I haven't touched this with any software, this is the image straight from my camera. I kind of wish I had centered the bridge a little more, maybe I'll try this shot again soon and work out the kinks.
Michael Lohr > This is another shot from about a month ago of the Fourmile Fire restoration efforts in Boulder County. The Fourmile Fire burned over 6000 acres last September.

I've been a huge fan of the vertical panoramic shots recently, and this one especially i feel shows the scale of the restoration efforts, and of the aftermath of the burn itself.
Michael Lohr > Abandoned Gold Mine - Didn't find any nuggets, just a long hole in the rock with a flooded floor. This is near the same property where I shot yesterdays Silo photo. Thank you for the comments and well wishes for the art auction.

The art charity was amazing! My photo took 1st place in the photography category, and auctioned for $180, all going to breast cancer research. I can't wait for next years show!
Michael Lohr > Sorry it's been a few. I've actually been busy with work and also setting up for my first photo charity auction! People bid on artwork and all the proceeds go to breast cancer research. Pretty sweet deal!!

Anyway, this photo I took at work today. It is from the inside of an old gold mine, this entire room was as big, if not bigger than most grain silos out in this area. The only access in was crawling on my stomach through a little hole broken into the bricks on the floor. Pretty cool view from inside though!
Michael Lohr > The sky is falling! (A Vertical Pano shot of an air mulch drop over the 6000 acre fourmile burn area from last september)
Michael Lohr > This was my first shot at Tilt Shift photography. Turning the world into my own diorama. I don't know if I like the composition too much, but for my first try, I feel I got the results I was looking for.
Michael Lohr > This is an older photo from last summer. This is a rattle snake I saw one morning at work. He was FIRED up, and took a few snaps at me as I snapped back with my camera. These are the kind of days that make me love my job even more.
Michael Lohr > TP on the horizon at sunrise!
Michael Lohr > Restoration efforts on the 6000 acre fire that burned through the county last september. What the heli is dropping is basically just a hay/seed mixture that will cover the ground enough to prevent heavy soil erosion this summer when the rains start. It is quite the show to watch the operation. I have a whole gallery dedicated to mulching photos on my main smugmug page if anyone was interested in seeing more.

Michael Lohr > I'm pumped that everyone seems to like the hand with the light photo! Thank you for all the great comments. Here is another one I shot the same night. This is a self portrait shot under the same light.
The girl was better positioned in the original pictures, but when I stitched the photos together for a pano the crop came dangerously close to cutting her out of the frame! Thankfully she is still there, but I kind of wish there was more around her.
