Michael Lohr > The view from my place at sunset :)
Michael Lohr > I decided it was much more important to rush out in the middle of the night to photograph storm clouds than it was to sleep.
Michael Lohr > Time to beat the heat of the summer and hike down by the coolness of snow melt rivers deep in the canyons of CO

Michael Lohr > I love the featurelessness (that's a word I swear!) of a foggy day. You don't realize it in this photo, but that tree at the edge of the rocks is literally at the edge of those rocks! It's about an 80 - 120 ft cliff just beyond that point. The fog in the valley gave this shot such a cool sense of the unknown vastness of the scene - It was much more powerful to be here in person, but I tried my best to capture an image of it. That's one of the coolest yet hardest things in photography to capture I feel is feelings. To be able to try and re-create a feeling, or a sense that you had at a particular moment and share it with others so they have that same sense as if they were there originally... That is what I strive for :)

Don't know if I quite got it here - but I'm happy with this shot
Michael Lohr > Dancing Grass

Super windy day - I couldn't help but play with some long (1/10s) exposures!
Michael Lohr > La Dia de Awesome!
Michael Lohr > Went driving at sunset again - Not nearly as cluttered as my last shot :)
Michael Lohr > We are our own toughest critics - This is my photo of the day. I have been eyeing up this location to shoot for awhile now, waiting for the perfect evening to go do it.

All said and done - I'm happy with the results - but at the same time, not crazy about the results. The composition is confusing and the scene is cluttered.

But I am posting this anyway because I realize that to take the perfect photo we first need to take countless more, make tons of mistakes, and be a little hard on ourselves from time to time. I am going to wait for another perfect evening, and reshoot this.

There is a photo here - and I'm going to find it!
Michael Lohr > This is (was) the champion cottonwood tree. The largest cottonwood tree in north america, located right here in boulder county. Yesterday for reasons unknown, the tree caught fire and burnt to the ground. Made for some cool photos, but is a sad story none the less :(

Michael Lohr > St. Malo Cathedral in Allenspark, CO - Shot in Infrared.
Michael Lohr > Blooming Cottonwood - In infrared.
Michael Lohr > Storm Season - I used a fast shutter speed and a small aperture to get the most out of the dark clouds, and I used a flash on the yucca plant in the foreground to keep it from getting too dark.
Michael Lohr > It's amazing what wildfire does for a landscape. This area was so overrun with sagebrush and weeds for as long as I can remember. Just a few months a go a small wildfire burnt about 800 acres in this area (hence all the scorched pines) and this is what it looks like now that it's spring. It's beautiful how life springs back so quickly and so richly.
